    Posted on October 10, 2016

Photo of Joe DavisSOSL is pleased to welcome another new board member, Joe Davis, Chaplain for the San Diego County Medical Examiner.  In his professional role which he has held for 16 years, he helps the staff of the Medical Examiner’s office deal with the daily stress of sudden, unexpected and traumatic deaths.  He also assists in the death investigations and often delivers death notifications to the families.

Additionally, Joe serves as the Executive Director of the Bereavement Center at the Medical Examiner’s office, which provides free counseling, education, cremation assistance, pastoral care, and referrals to families.  The program is facilitated by Dunami Ministries which Joe leads as the Executive Director.  During his tenure with the Medical Examiner’s Office, he created and implemented the Beyond the Caution Tape Program which works with young offenders by showing them the real consequences and suffering caused by their risky behavior.

Joe is involved in a number of other professional organizations including  the San Diego Eye Bank, San Diego County Tissue Bank, UC Irvine Brain Research Program and the Sheriff’s Department Chaplaincy Program.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Ministry from Horizon Bible Institute and is a certified Trauma Services Specialist.  His experience includes lecturing for numerous organizations including the American Red Cross, Horizon Bible Institute, Azusa Pacific University, and the US Border Patrol.

Always an ardent supporter of the work that SOSL does in the community, two years ago, the cause became even more personal when he lost his father to suicide.  Joe’s experience, knowledge, and passion will benefit SOSL’s survivors support programs as well as enhance our suicide prevention efforts in San Diego.
